Elizabeth Maleche Obimbo is a Professor of Paediatrics and Respiratory Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of Nairobi. Her areas of specialization and research include Paediatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Disease and Epidemiology. She has extensive experience in paediatric clinical care, and in training and mentoring young doctors in paediatrics. She has been involved for decades in research in HIV, TB and other respiratory diseases in children, hence providing locally relevant evidence through research to inform local and international guidelines and policy around childhood respiratory and infectious disease.
Prof Maleche-Obimbo provides technical guidance to the Kenyan Ministry of Health on childhood respiratory disease, tuberculosis and HIV, as a member of the respective Technical Working Groups of the Ministry of Health.
Internationally she provides a voice from an African perspective as a Core Team Member of the Child and Adolescent Tuberculosis Working Group of the Stop TB Partnership, as well as the WHO Paediatric Antiretroviral Therapy Working Group. Her passion continues to be to work towards making a positive difference in the health and survival of children who are living in less advantaged settings through clinical service, training, research, and translation of evidence into policy and practice.
