Flavia Mugala-Mukungu

Dr. Flavia Mugala-Mukungu is a Specialist Physician at the Department of Internal Medicine Katutura Hospital, Namibia. She is also in charge of the National Referral TB Hospital. She was the founding Chairperson of the HIV Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Ministry of Health and Social Services from 2000 to 2013. She has continued to be part of the TAC and has been involved in several guidelines drafting reviews and implementation, including STI Guidelines, TB Guidelines, and HIV Treatment Guidelines. She has reviewed Standard Treatment Guidelines for Primary Health Care Clinics. She was principal investigator in the initial study that collected HIV prevalence data among patients admitted to the National TB Hospital 1993-1994. She has been involved in 2 studies on HIV/MDR TB in Namibia that were published in the Journal of Microbiology 1999. She reviewed protocols for ‘Secure the Future Program -BMS’ 1999-2001 and was involved in writing protocols for initiating HIV Treatments in Zambezi Region that had a high HIV prevalence of more 50%.  Dr Mugala is a Founder Member of the HIV Clinicians Society Namibia and was Chairperson from 2003 to 2006. From 1997 to 2004, she was a Trustee of the Lironga Eparu Organisation for People Living with HIV
