Dr. Naemi Shoopala is the Director of Primary Health Care Services at the Ministry of Health and Social Services, overseeing diverse health programs such as Maternal and Child Health Services, Immunization, Community and School Based, Health Promotion, Food and Nutrition, Public and Environmental Health, among others. She has also led the Directorate of Special Program overseeing HIV, TB and Malaria. Her extensive career spans 28 years in nursing and public health, during which she has led and implemented District Primary Health Care programs in both rural and urban settings. Dr. Shoopala completed a Humphrey Fellowship at Emory University, focusing on HIV prevention and policy. Her significant roles include serving for 14 years as an HIV/AIDS Field Coordinator, Maternal and Child Health Specialist, and Senior Technical Advisor at CDC-Namibia. She has also been involved in overseeing the Global Fund grant implementation and CDC Cooperation Agreement with the Ministry. In 2014, she received the PEPFAR Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to HIV response in Namibia. Currently, she is a member of the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM), chairs the National Validation Committee for the triple elimination of MTCT of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B, and is the Principal Investigator for the MOHSS-CDC Cooperative Agreement. Early this year, she was appointed Co-chair of the Global UNAIDS Sustainability Advisory Committee.
