Ndapewa Hamunime Dr Ndapewa Hamunime, MD, MBA, is an experienced medical doctor with over 29 years of experience especially in the HIV and TB field. She poses a Medical Degree from Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow as well as a Master Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA) and currently working with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) as a Senior Medical Advisor on HIV and TB. Dr Hamunime has worked with HIV programs as a practicing clinician and as a manager for programs for over 15 years. In her previous capacity as the Chief Medical Officer for HIV and STI for MoHSS, Dr Hamunime has played an important role in overseeing and coordinating the integrated responses to prevent and control HIV/AIDS in Namibia.
Numerous milestones have been achieved especially in the HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment. Currently, communities are more than ever mobilized to participate in the fight against HIV in Namibia. While working for MoHSS and with support from Development Partners, as a Head of the HIV/STIs Program, in the country, Dr Hamunime has coordinated the scale up of HIV services in Namibia. From 2005, she was tasked to lead the roll out of ART to all the 14 regions. She assessed and monitored sites for readiness to render HIV services; recruited and oriented staff as well as arranging for in-service training including the development and the periodic update of appropriate guidelines as well as overseeing infrastructure re-modifications and renovations over the years.
Dr Hamunime has established a Private Medical Practice in Windhoek for clinical management of patients, including those infected and affected with HIV, thus contributing to the well-being of all Namibians. The clinic has expanded over the years to include specialist in different fields such as ENT and Psychiatry.
Several scientific papers have been published, written and co-authored by Dr Hamunime. Currently she is working on two publications and writing her autobiography.
