Nyanda Elias Ntinginya Nyanda Elias Ntinginya, MD, MSc, PhD, is an MD-scientist and global health research leader serving as Director of Research Coordination and Promotion at Tanzania’s National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR). With more than 19 years of experience, he has advanced clinical trials, implementation research, and health systems strengthening in Tanzania and across Africa, with expertise spanning tuberculosis, HIV, emerging infections, select non-communicable diseases, and integrated health systems research, including evaluation of drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, and service delivery approaches. He has led and contributed to over 30 national and multi-country trials and has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Ntinginya has helped build NIMR Mbeya into a continental centre of excellence with internationally accredited clinical and laboratory platforms, including Tanzania’s only CAP-accredited laboratory, and has served on national and regional advisory bodies such as the Presidential Special Advisory Technical Committee on COVID-19 and the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG), as well as DSMBs/IDMCs and scientific advisory committees. He contributes to global initiatives with partners including Africa CDC, WHO, the East African Health Research Commission, the EU, and NIH, and is an active contributor to ACHIEVE Africa, focused on advancing African-led vaccine R&D and equitable access while mentoring the next generation of African scientists.
