Saidi Kapiga

Saidi Kapiga, MD, MPH, ScD is the Scientific Director of the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) in northwest Tanzania and a Professor of Epidemiology and International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). For more than 28 years, he has conducted research to investigate factors associated with increased risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and to evaluate prevention strategies. He is particularly interested in studies to assess the efficacy of novel microbicide products among women at increased risk of HIV exposure and acquisition; strategies to improve health system responses against chronic diseases; evaluations of the role of alcohol-focused interventions as a strategy for HIV prevention; interventions to prevent intimate partner violence among women; and the design, implementation, and evaluation of programmes aimed at improving and maintaining the health of adolescents and young people.
