Dr. Christopher Akolo is an infectious disease and public health physician with over 20 years of experience leading and supporting HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs in resource-limited settings. He is based in Washington, DC, USA, where he currently serves as the Senior Technical Director, HIV, at FHI 360 and Technical Director for the PEPFAR/USG-funded Meeting Targets and Achieving Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, implemented in more than 30 countries worldwide. In his role at FHI 360, Dr. Akolo leads a multidisciplinary team of technical experts and provides strategic direction and technical leadership for HIV programs, working closely with governments, donors, and community partners to advance epidemic control. He has contributed to several global technical working groups, including the revision of the WHO STI Guidelines, WHO Key Populations Guidelines, and the WHO guidelines on isoniazid preventive therapy. His professional interests span programming for at-risk populations, antiretroviral therapy, PrEP, tuberculosis, STI services, operations research, stigma reduction within health facilities, and strengthening country ownership for self-reliant HIV responses. Dr. Akolo is passionate about translating evidence into practice and amplifying African leadership in the global HIV response.
