Rob Gruters is a molecular virologist and work group leader HIV research. He finished his thesis on “T cell function in HIV infection” at the University of Amsterdam in 1990, directed by prof F Miedema. He went to the UMR103 CNRS/bioMérieux at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France, headed by dr B Mandrand, for a post doc and received a tenure track position. In 2003, Rob Gruters engaged in the virology department of prof A. Osterhaus at Erasmus MC, studying the interactions between HIV and the immune system. He acted as sponsor of 2 clinical trials for therapeutic vaccination in HIV-infected individuals: registration numbers: NTR2198, NCT02888756 and is member of the European HIV Vaccine Alliance (EHVA). He collaborated with prof C Boucher on HIV antiviral resistance and proviral reservoir with in the Erasmus MC HIV Eradication Group (EHEG). He acted as co-promotor for 5 PhD students. Besides that Rob is the chairperson for the Erasmus Postgraduate school Molecular Medicine Education Committee.
Rob Gruters’s personal goals are to share his experience with all, but especially young, researchers. Facilitate their research projects and communicate with the HIV community, including PLWHIV, doctors and nurses. Setting up new trials to test new concepts.
